This week in LVC athletics...Best of luck to those competing in postseason/State Finals!! Go Miners!

Every year for the last 17 years I've personally wished every graduate from Valley the best of luck with the charge to "go do great things" but tonight I had to miss out on this due to my son's graduation being on the same night. We still took our selfie this morning. So graduates "Go Do Great Things!" - Dr. Janssen

Here is the link for tonight's graduation livestream. Graduation starts on May 15th at 7:30 pm.

Looking for something fun to do this summer?

The Valley Junior-Senior High Choir traveled to Peoria yesterday (Monday 5/11) to perform at the Gerald M. Brookhart Spring Celebration of the Arts. There was great weather for the outdoor event and even some untimely train whistles couldn't stop these performers from shining on stage for the final show of the year!

We were excited to welcome another former Spoon River Valley student back as part of our Career Guest Speaker series!
On Friday, May 8, 2020 SRV graduate Hayley Olson visited with students to share her journey from Valley to earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from Ball State University in 2025. Hayley now works at TowerPinkster in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she collaborates in a multidisciplinary design firm specializing in architecture, engineering, interior design, and landscape architecture.
Our Career Guest Speaker series highlights the many different career pathways available to students while reconnecting current students with SRV alumni who are building meaningful careers and making an impact in their communities. Thank you, Hayley, for coming back to inspire the next generation!

FFA gathered for the Section 12 Banquet, where we had two members run for Section offices. Congrats to Colton Ward for getting elected as Treasurer and Rocky Meyer for Sentinel. We also 4 people earn their State FFA Degree. These people were Alyssa Fidler, Rocky Meyer, Blake Shelby, and Cael Smith. Congratulations to all who where elected and received awards.

It became official Tuesday afternoon, I was out of the building on Wednesday and by the time I got to work on Thursday the Industrial Arts class already had an updated name plate made. THANKS!

Congratulations to Ellyanna Yackley and Kensley McConkey. They attended the IPA Student Recognition Breakfast at Western Illinois University with me and their parents today.

Our junior high Smithsonian Democracy in Dialogue students had an awesome opportunity to participate in a live Q&A with sports historian Seth Tannenbaum alongside our exchange partners from YES Prep Northline.
Students asked thoughtful questions about:
⚾ Baseball history
⚾ Why fewer young people may be connecting with baseball today
⚾ The rising cost of attending professional sporting events
⚾ The history of women in baseball
A huge thank you to Seth for taking time to speak with our students and encourage their curiosity and questions.
