This week in LVC Miners athletics

Today, Spoon River Valley students had the privilege of welcoming Janie Baker back to campus! A 2017 Valley graduate and pharmacist at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Janie shared her educational journey, career experiences, and valuable advice with our students. We are grateful for alumni like Janie who return to inspire the next generation and share the many opportunities available to our students. Thank you, Janie, for investing in our students and our school community!

Today we had the opportunity for our elementary students (K-5) to go experience the ballet in Peoria! We are thankful we can offer this opportunity for our students to have an experience they might not otherwise experience.

It's that time of year when we are finalizing the end of year calendar. After taking into account e-learning days and snow days and everything else, the FINAL day of student attendance will be May 26th. May 22nd and 26th will both be HS finals and also a 2:00 dismissal. Please mark your calendars. The end is coming up fast!

Last night (Wednesday 4/29) our small, but mighty LVC boys team had another good night on the track! Anders Harrison came away as the 400m County Champ. Elliot Haepp had a season best in the 100. Hayden Heath had 2 personal best in the 200 and long jump. Liam Larson placed 3rd in both the 800m and 1600m runs. Declan Kotewa placed 4th in the 1600m and 5th in the high jump. Dexter Leady placed 6th in the 800m dash. And finally our boys 4x800 meter relay placed 2nd overall. Great job gentleman!

Barnyard Day was a huge success! Despite less-than-perfect weather, our students had an unforgettable time learning, exploring, and celebrating both agriculture and Earth Day. A special thank you to Mrs. Mayall for organizing engaging Earth Day activities, and to Mr. Ian Mayall, our Ag students, and the many local farms and community partners who helped make this day possible. We are so grateful for the support that brings learning to life for our students! 🐄🌎🌱

The LVC Girls Track Team came out on top winning the Fulton County Track meet by scoring 137 points. Farmington came in second with 112 points. LVC had five county champions in the meet as well. They also had eight second place medalists & one third place medalist. Several girls also had personal & season bests. Mrs. Burdette's U.S. History students have made several trips to the Fairview Library as they research local history for their final Smithsonian Democracy in Dialogue Virtual Exchange project with students in New York. As part of the "250: Symbols of Our Story" exchange, students are creating museum exhibits and community logos that showcase the people, places, and events that have shaped our community. We are excited to see their work come to life and share our story with others! 🇺🇸📚

Updates for today (Tues 28th)...Varsity baseball game has been moved to Monmouth United at 4:30 The LVC HS softball games scheduled for today (4-28) have been cancelled (practice will be at Fairview in the grass). The JV baseball game in Farmington is on.
